The road re-opens at 17:00 every day during the closure
Due to planned road closures affecting routes around our pub from 3rd August to 21st August (daytime only), vehicle access to The Butchers Arms will only be on the road from Painswick and Cranham. Pedestrians may be allowed access via the closed road at certain times.
If you have any concerns about access or need assistance planning your journey, please contact the pub directly and we’ll be happy to help.

Our luxurious Shepherd Huts:

Annie and Rosie quite literally flew into location and now proudly sit adjacent to the pub enjoying amazing views across the glorious rolling hills of the Cotswolds.
Both huts offer comfortable accommodation for overnight guests and are complete with kitchens, bathrooms and patio areas.
The famous author, Laurie Lee who wrote Cider With Rosie lived locally and was a regular at the Butchers Arms. We have named our huts after his mother Annie and after the famous Rosie.
Welcome to The Butchers Arms
The Butchers Arms is a traditional free house pub lying in the heart of ‘Cider With Rosie’ country in the beautiful Sheepscombe valley near Painswick in Gloucestershire.
Although we are well known for our traditional home cooked food, “The Butchers” is still very much a village pub and you are equally welcome to drop by for a pint of real ale or a glass of wine. The area is a magnet for walkers, cyclists and tourists and attractions such as the Rococco Gardens and Prinknash Abbey are just a short drive away.
We have two new dog-friendly Shepherd Huts available to book to stay over.
Bar & Dining
We pride ourselves on our freshly home-cooked, ‘no nonsense’ dishes, using locally grown or reared produce wherever possible. Our traditional pub classics menu changes twice yearly to reflect ‘Light Nights’ and ‘Dark Nights’. However we always have some variety on our ever changing Specials Board and Pie of the Week offering.
